Necessary ingredients to make a cute family-friendly pizza
When it comes to achieving that vibrant green hue, you have a variety of options at your disposal. For our froggy pizza we chose to use spirulina, a type of seaweed that provides a beautiful color without significantly altering the flavor when used in moderation. Other great alternatives include, food coloring, matcha powder or blended spinach. However, my favorite remains spirulina, as it not only contributes to the aesthetic appeal but also adds a touch of nutritional benefits.
Here you have a list of all the ingredients needed in this recipe and why we are using them or where.
- All-Purpose Flour: A key ingredient for the pizza dough, all-purpose flour provides the right balance of texture and elasticity, ensuring a soft and chewy pizza crust.
- Bread Flour: Adding bread flour enhances the dough’s structure and helps achieve a crispy, yet chewy, crust. It’s higher in protein, making it ideal for pizza dough that needs extra strength to hold its shape.
- Spirulina: a nutrient-rich algae used here to give your froggy pizza its distinctive green color. It’s packed with vitamins and minerals, making it a healthy addition to your fun pizza for kids.
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil: it adds richness to the dough, making it softer and more flavorful. It also helps with the crispiness of the pizza crust while enhancing the overall taste.
- Fresh yeast is essential for making the dough rise and gives your frog-shaped pizza that light, airy texture. It helps the dough rise quickly, producing a fluffy crust.
- Water: is needed to activate the yeast and bind the ingredients together. It’s also essential for the dough’s consistency, ensuring the pizza dough isn’t too dry or too sticky.
- Salt: enhances the flavor of the pizza dough and helps balance out the other ingredients.
What different toppings can you use in your pizza?
When making a frog-shaped pizza, you can get creative with a variety of pizza toppings to enhance both flavor and appearance. Here are some great ideas to make your frog pizza even more fun and delicious:
- Pepperoni and cheese, pineapple and ham, pesto, burrata, bacon, cherry tomatoes, olives, artichoke hearts, bell peppers, broccoli and cheese..
Variations and substitutions for your froggy pizza:
—All purpose flour: you can try using whole wheat flour which is higher in fiber or gluten free flour for a gluten free option. Oat flour, chickpea flour and corn flour are good alternatives.
—Bread Flour: you can use all purpose flour instead or gf flour.
—Spirulina: use matcha powder if you want a green color and health benefits, chlorella or green food coloring.
—Extra virgin olive oil: Use soft butter, sunflower oil, olive oil or any other vegetable oil you like to use. I personally recommend you stick to extra virgin olive oil or olive oil for a more flavorful and delicious dough.
—Water: try using sparkling water for an airier dough texture.
—Salt: If you can’t use salt try using garlic powder or Parmesan cheese.
