Nutella pancakes
We love Nutella; you will find many Nutella recipes on our website, and this one is one of my favorites. It has a long story behind it, but this recipe changed my life, literally.
They are so soft and fluffy, they are stuffed with so much Nutella, and they are the perfect breakfast to treat yourself.
They can be paired with fresh fruits like strawberries or raspberries.

Add to your shopping list!
- All-purpose flour: will give structure to the pancake. If you add too much flour, the pancakes will become too dense.
- Milk: adds moisture to the batter; you should use full-fat milk
- Eggs: room temperature. Don’t overmix them.
- Granulated sugar: adds sweetness, flavor, and color.
- Baking powder: it’s what will make sure your pancakes are super fluffy.
- Vegetable oil: I prefer using a neutral oil like sunflower or olive oil.
- Nutella: We will freeze it into disks and place them in the center of the pancake. Once the pancake is cooked, it will beautifully melt.
- Salt: enhances the flavor of the pancake.
- Vanilla extract: good to use if you have it.
All the ingredients you need to prepare pancakes are ingredients you can easily find, or you already have at home.
How do you make the perfect pancake batter?
You know you have the perfect pancake batter when it’s thick, pourable, but still really thick. If it’s too runny, it’s more like a crepe batter.
You achieve the perfect batter by:
- Following the recipe
- Not overmixing the Ingredients
- Letting the pancake batter rest for 30 minutes before using

Do I need to freeze Nutella for Nutella pancakes?
In short answer is yes. But it’s also possible to do it without freezing it.
The reason why we freeze Nutella disks is so we can easily put them inside the Nutella pancake without making a mess. If the Nutella is not frozen, it can also spread too much everywhere. If you add a circular disk, it is flat, which helps with evenly cooking the pancake.
How to make a Nutella disk (easy way)
- Cut a big piece of parchment paper, about double the size of the Nutella disk.
- Grab a spoonful of Nutella and place it in the center of the parchment paper.
- Cover the Nutella with the parchment paper and squish. Make it flat. Repeat until you have 4 Nutella disks.
- Freeze for at least 30 minutes.
How to make a Nutella disk, option two
- Melt the Nutella in the microwave. Make sure to control it so it doesn’t burn.
- Grab a big tray and line it with parchment paper.
- Pour Nutella into 4 different sections. Freeze for at least 30 minutes.

My best tips to make Nutella pancakes
I have made pancakes so many times, I’m a professional at this point😊
- Use two different bowls, one for the dry ingredients, another one for the wet.
- Make sure you don’t overmix the pancake batter.
- Cook them on very low heat and cover with a lid; this will ensure your pancakes are thoroughly cooked.
- Make sure to use a frozen Nutella disk so the Nutella doesn’t escape and burn at the bottom.
- If the pancakes fall apart when you flip them, it means they’re too raw and not ready to be flipped. Make sure you see bubbles form on the surface of the pancake before you flip it.
- If the pancakes stick to the pan, you are probably using the wrong pan.
You will achieve a smooth pancake if you don’t use butter when you cook it. If you use butter, it will create rings that only affect appearance.
Remember: the first pancake is always a tester; they never turn out right.

Dense pancakes?
This happens when you over mix the batter or add extra flour, they can make your pancakes dense and heavy instead of light and fluffy. To avoid having dense pancakes mix the batter just until combined, over mixing develops gluten which can lead to a tougher texture. Sift the pancakes before adding them to the batter to incorporate air and reduce clumping.
Tools you need to prepare Nutella pancakes
- Large mixing bowls: You will need different bowls to combine the ingredients.
- Whisk: need it to whisk the ingredients together.
- Parchment paper: to freeze the Nutella into disks.
- Small non-stick pan: make sure it’s a pan that hasn’t been used too much and has no scratches.
- Big spatula: to flip the pancakes without breaking them.
- Ladle or measuring cup: You will use it to pour the batter into the non-stick pan.
- Lid: needed to cover the pan when cooking the pancake.
Important points:
- Not overmixing the batter.
- Cooking the pancake thoroughly.
- Low heat and covered with a lid.
- Flipping the pancake without fear of breaking. Be fast with the movement. Being slow and unsure with it will make it break.
This Nutella pancake is very customizable; you can add anything you want inside, milk, dark white chocolate, Biscoff spread, pistachio butter, or any other filling you want to try.

Serving tips:
Nutella pancakes are great on their own, but you can make them even better by adding some freshness. Clean, dry, and cut some fresh fruits to put on the side. (kiwis, strawberries, raspberries, blueberries…).
If you love pancakes with syrup, you can definitely add some, just be careful, as the Nutella is very sweet. The pancake itself is not too sweet.
To drink: have a nice cold glass of milk. You will enjoy it with this delicious breakfast.
How to freeze pancake batter ready to go
Did you know you can prepare the pancake batter in bulk and then freeze it? It’s easier than you think. In this case, we are going to prepare smaller pancakes to do so.
Prepare tiny Nutella disks following the instructions above. Using a freezer-safe silicone mold, add half of the pancake batter, Nutella disk in the center, and more batter on top. Freeze it.
To use: all you have to do is remove the prepared pancake batter and cook it as normal.

How to freeze pancakes
You can also freeze pancakes by themselves. After you cook the pancakes in the pan, wrap them with aluminum foil and place them inside a freezer-safe bag. Make sure to add the name of the product and the date.
Thaw in the fridge overnight and warm up before enjoying.
Storage tips:
If by any chance you made too many pancakes and have some leftovers, you can keep them for later. Keep them in a plate wrapped with plastic wrap and keep in the fridge for up to 3 days. Microwave them so they stay warm, or cook them in the pan with butter.
