  • Incredibly easy to make with no complicated steps
  • No unusual ingredients.
  • Everyone will absolutely love them.

Do you really need any more reasons to make these today?

Key Ingredients

This French toast is made from basic, everyday ingredients that everyone usually has at home – bread, eggs, heavy whipping cream, ground cinnamon, sugar, butter, and of course, the star ingredient, Nutella.

You can find all the exact quantities in the recipe card below, but let me quickly explain each ingredient:

  • Bread: You can use stale bread or fresh bread. This time I used fresh, but I usually recommend stale bread. It’s a great way to give it a second chance and it often tastes even better in French toast.
  • Eggs: Essential to bind and create the custard base for soaking the bread.
  • Heavy whipping cream: You can swap this for milk if you prefer. I was simply trying something different this time, and it turned out amazing, richer and more flavorful.
  • Ground cinnamon: Brings a beautiful warmth and classic French toast flavor.
  • Granulated sugar: We use this to coat the French toast bites after frying, adding that sweet crunch.
  • Nutella: The star of the recipe, adding creamy chocolate hazelnut goodness to every bite.
  • Butter: I always recommend frying French toast in butter instead of oil, it gives a much better flavor and golden crispness.

Tools I recommend to use for this recipe

For the best results when making these French toast bites, I recommend using the following equipment:

  • Mixing bowl: To prepare the custard mixture and soak the bread pieces evenly.
  • Whisk: Essential for beating the eggs and combining all the custard ingredients smoothly.
  • Frying pan: This is where you will cook the French toast bites until they’re golden and perfectly crisp.
  • Bread knife or knife: To slice the bread into mini bite-sized pieces neatly.

Major success tips

  1. Soak the bread properly: Ensure each piece is fully coated and soaked in the custard mixture. If you’re using stale bread, it will take slightly longer to absorb the custard. Fresh bread requires only a quick dip , any longer, and it may become too soggy.
  2. Customize with toppings: Feel free to add your favorite toppings
  • sliced strawberries
  • condensed milk
  • brown sugar
  • Biscoff spread
  • or anything you love to make them extra indulgent.

3. Best enjoyed warm: These bites are meant to be eaten fresh and warm. Prepare only as much as you intend to eat immediately.

If you have leftovers, reheat them in a frying pan with a little butter to restore their delicious crispy exterior.

How To Make Nutella French Toast Bites

Slice the bread

Let me teach you how to easily make Nutella French toast bites!

First, choose your bread.

I recommend using sandwich bread or any soft loaf with a similar shape, or even smaller bread rolls if you prefer mini portions.

Using a bread knife, and being very careful, slice the bread into three long strips.

Then, cut each strip into smaller pieces to create bite-sized cubes.

Continue until all your bread is sliced into mini bites ready for the next step.

prepare the custard mixture

Next, grab a mixing bowl and add two eggs along with heavy whipping cream.

Whisk them together thoroughly until the eggs are fully blended with the cream.

Now, add ground cinnamon and granulated sugar, then whisk again until you have a smooth, creamy custard mixture.

This custard will be what we dip our bread bites into for that perfect French toast flavor.

Now, take the bread bites and gently dip them into the custard mixture, making sure each piece is well coated.

My bread absorbed the custard really quickly, and I didn’t have any leftover mixture, that’s exactly what you want for perfectly flavorful French toast bites.

fry the mini French toast bites

Grab a frying pan and generously melt some butter in it.

Once the butter is hot and bubbling, add the custard-coated bread bites.

Cook them over medium heat, turning frequently with a spatula or tongs, until all sides are golden brown and nicely toasted.

This will give you that perfect crispy outside and soft inside.

prepare the cinnamon sugar mixture

Now, quickly prepare a cinnamon sugar mixture that we’ll use to coat the French toast bites right after they come off the heat.

This way, all that warm, buttery toast will catch the sugar perfectly, adding a delicious sweet crunch.

To make the cinnamon sugar, simply combine ground cinnamon and granulated sugar in a bowl. Give it a quick mix, and your flavorful coating is ready to go!

Now, toss the French toast bites in the cinnamon sugar while they’re still warm so every bite gets that perfect sweet crunch.

On the side, gently warm some Nutella for dipping, it’s pure indulgence!

Q: What’s your favorite breakfast treat? I’d love to hear your go-to morning indulgence!
