Delicious homemade beef lasagna

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion
  • 1 carrot
  • 1 small celery
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 300 grams ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili flakes
  • 6 tablespoons tomato sauce (or more)

Bechamel sauce

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 20 grams all purpose flour
  • 275 grams milk
  • pinch of salt
  • nutmeg

More

  • 6 cannelloni pasta sheet or 3 lasagna pasta sheet (depends on what you have or can find)
  • 150 grams mozzarella cheese
  • parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Start by prepping your veggies, peel and chop them into small and uniform pieces.

1)First step, veggies

  1. Heat a pan over medium heat and add butter or oil to cook your veggies, once its melted and hot, carefully add the chopped onions, stir so they are spread evenly in the pan. Cook them for about 4 minutes (our onions are green because that’s what we had from our garden, use normal onions if you have them.)
  2. after the onions have cooked for about 4 minutes on medium low heat you can add the carrots and celery.

2)Second step, garlic

  1. You wanna cook them until they are soft, put a lid on top of the pan to help with this step. Add the minced garlic into to the pan, i like to add it at this step to prevent it from burning. Cook it until fragrant.

3)Third step, beef

  1. add the ground beef to the pan spreading it out evenly and use a spatula to break up the ground beef into smaller pieces as it cooks. Cook the beef over medium heat, stirring occasionally until its browned. It should take about 6 minutes. Add the spices and cook for 1 more minute.

4)Forth step, tomato sauce

  1. you can make the tomato sauce or buy it, we are using this homemade tomato sauce we made last year and have stored in jars.
  2. Add it into the beef and give it a good mix until its well combined.

5)Fifth step, bechamel sauce

  1. to make our homemade bechamel sauce you wanna start by heating the pan on the stove over medium heat with some butter on top. Once the butter is melted you wanna add the flour and cook it over medium low heat for about 4 minutes, don’t stop stirring the flour or it may burn.

6)Sixth step, bechamel sauce

  1. then you can go ahead and add the milk and stir, cook the sauce for about 5 to 7 seven minutes or until it thickens to your desired consistency. Stir constantly to ensure the sauce cooks evenly and doesn’t stick to the pan. Once it’s ready add nutmeg.
  2. If you notice any lumps in your bechamel sauce you can strain it through a fine mesh sieve.

7)Seventh step, layer

  1. Pre heat your oven at 240 C (475F)
  2. Grab your baking pan of choice and add bechamel sauce to the bottom, noodles, beef and then top it with more bechamel sauce.

8)Eight step, layer

  1. Add your lasagna sheet, more ground beef, bechamel, pasta and more bechamel sauce. Top it with some mozzarella cheese.

9)Ninth step, bake

  1. Once your lasagna is assembled and ready to bake place it on the top tack of your oven. Make sure the oven is set to broil (top heat) because we dont wanna bake the whole thing we just wanna give the cheese that beautiful color.
  2. bake at 240 C (475F), keep an eye on your oven because we don’t wanna burn it, it should take you about 5 to 8 minutes to achieve that Colour. Allow the lasagna to set for a few minutes before cutting, this will help it set and make it easier to slice and serve. Top it with chopped parsley.
