  • 5 tablespoons sunflower oil

mashed potatoes

  • 4 potatoes
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 150 grams heavy cream
  • water to boil the potatoes
  • fresh rosemary
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

sauce

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 250 grams heavy cream
  • 175 grams beef stock
  • salt to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

step one, Prepare the Meatball Mixture

  1. In a large bowl, combine 400 grams of ground beef with 1 slice of bread soaked in 50 grams of milk. Add 1 caramelized onion, 3 tablespoons of chopped fresh parsley, 3 minced garlic cloves, 2 eggs, 1 teaspoon of salt, 1 teaspoon of black pepper, and 1 teaspoon of ground cumin. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined for a flavorful meatball base.

step two, Form the Meatballs

  1. Using your hands, roll the mixture into small, even-sized meatballs. To make them easier to handle and ensure they crisp up during frying, lightly coat each meatball in flour before frying.

step three, Fry the Meatballs

  1. Heat 5 tablespoons of sunflower oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the meatballs and cook for about 7-10 minutes, turning occasionally to ensure they are golden brown and cooked through. Once cooked, remove the meatballs from the pan and set them aside.

step four, Make the Mashed Potatoes

  1. Peel and chop 4 potatoes into chunks and boil them in water until they are tender (about 15-20 minutes). Drain the potatoes, then mash them with 3 tablespoons of butter, 150 grams of heavy cream, salt, black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg. Mash until smooth and creamy, adding a bit of water or extra cream if necessary to reach the desired consistency.

step five, Prepare the Gravy

  1. In the same pan you used to fry the meatballs, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add 1 chopped onion and 3 minced garlic cloves and sauté until it starts to look golden brown. Stir in 1 tablespoon of flour to thicken the gravy. Gradually add 250 grams of heavy cream and 175 grams of beef stock, stirring constantly to avoid lumps. Season with salt, black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon of nutmeg to taste. Simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and the flavors to blend.

step six, Combine Meatballs with Gravy

  1. You can choose to blend the sauce until smooth or leave it with the pieces of garlic and onions. Return the cooked meatballs to the pan with the gravy. Gently stir to coat the meatballs in the sauce. Let them simmer for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the meatballs to absorb some of the gravy flavors and become tender.

step seven, Plate the Dish

  1. Serve the meatballs on a plate, accompanied by a generous serving of creamy mashed potatoes. Spoon the rich gravy over the meatballs and mashed potatoes for an indulgent and comforting dish.
