Instructions
Step one 1) combine the ingredients
- In a mixing bowl or stand mixer, combine all-purpose flour, bread flour, salt, spirulina, water, and fresh yeast. These key ingredients form the base of your delightful and fun frog pizza dough.
Step two 2) knead the dough
- Knead the dough for about 10 minutes using a stand mixer. If you don’t have one, knead it by hand, but expect to put in a little extra time and effort. Proper kneading is crucial for creating the soft and stretchy texture needed for your unique animal-shaped pizza.
Step three 3) add the extra virgin olive oil
- Once the dough is smooth, add 1 tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil and knead for an additional five minutes. The olive oil gives your frog pizza crust a rich flavor and silky texture, perfect for achieving the ideal consistency.
Step four 4) first dough proofing
- Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a damp kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 40 minutes or until it doubles in size.
Step five 5) shape the froggy pizza dough eyes
- After the dough has risen, divide the dough into four portions plus, set aside two small portions to form the frog’s eyes. Roll each big piece into a big ball and then, roll each smaller piece into a small ball and attach them to the main dough using a tiny bit of water, if needed.
Step six 6) rest the dough again
- Cover the dough with plastic wrap and allow it to rest again, this time for 10 minutes.
Step seven 7) shape the dough
- Sprinkle a small amount of flour on your hands and gently shape the dough into a frog. Press down on the body while keeping the eyes raised for a playful, three-dimensional appearance. The unique shape of this animal-themed pizza will delight both kids and adults.
Step eight 8) add toppings
- Spread blended or grated fresh tomatoes evenly over the dough. Add plenty of mozzarella cheese, then customize your frog pizza with your favorite toppings like pepperoni, olives, oregano or even vegetables for a healthier twist. For this recipe we are using mozzarella and small pepperoni. Personalizing your pizzas makes the process fun for everyone!
Step nine 9) Bake your froggy pizzas
- Preheat the oven to 220°C (390°F) and bake your frog-shaped pizzas for about 13 minutes. Check the pizzas after 10 minutes to ensure they’re perfectly cooked without over-baking.
Step ten 10) Decorate
- Once baked, use dark chocolate to decorate the eyes of your frog for a whimsical finishing touch. You can also add other garnishes like herbs, olives, or even edible paint for extra flair. Serve your frog pizza warm and enjoy the fun and delicious results!
