A French toast is a delicious and popular breakfast dish made by soaking slices of bread in a mixture of beaten eggs, vanilla and milk, then they are fried until golden brown. They are normally made with thicker and old slices of bread.
The bread is dipped in the mixture until it soaks all the liquid, when you use old and dry bread you can leave it soaking for hours for it to absorb all the moisture. They are cooked with butter until perfection. There’s different variations to a classic French toast.

The ingredients are very basic, you can find then anywhere.
- Bread, it doesn’t matter what bread you use, but remember if you are using fresh bread you have to quickly dip it, don’t let it soak in the egg mixture for hours or it will probably melt. If you are using old bread allow it to soak the liquid for hours
- chocolate spread, you can use any kind of chocolate, even just chocolate, it will melt when you cook it.
- eggs, they’re for the mixture to soak the bread.
- milk, you can use half and half instead or buttermilk.
- cinnamon, we are using it for the egg mixture and to coat the toast later
- granulated sugar, using it for the mixture and also on top of the toast.
- butter, you need fat to cook a French toast, you could use your favorite oil instead.

- It’s so much better to use dry and thick bread when making a French toast.
- the best ingredient to stuff your French toast is Nutella, press the bread a little with a spoon so it sinks a in the middle and you can add more chocolate spread inside.
- using butter is the best option when frying your Nutella french toast, it will help crisp the edges and will result in a perfect golden brown color. You can use brown butter for a more nutty flavor
- Brown the bread in both sides. You are soaking the bred in a egg mixture and you wanna make sure its completely cooked. You will know its ready because you can see how it has a golden brown color.
- This is not a healthy breakfast so use enough butter to fry the bread. It will give a better flavor and texture to the dish.
how to make it
Making a Nutella French toast is a simple and rewarding process. Start by gathering all the ingredients, we will need thick bread, egg, granulated sugar, cinnamon, Nutella and butter.
I like to start by cutting the edges of the bread simply because I don’t like it but you can defiantly omit this step. Once they are cut you can use a spoon and press on the middle of the bread (if it’s fresh) so you can add more Nutella inside.
Add the Nutella and cover it with another piece of bread
Prepare the egg mixture, use one small egg, milk, cinnamon and granulated sugar. Mix it until you can’t see more egg lumps anymore. If you have vanilla you can add it to this mix and it will make the dish so much more delicious.
Soak the bread, if you are using fresh bread just leave it for a couple seconds but if the bread is old make sure its completely soaked, it could take you some hours for it to be perfect. Make sure it doesn’t get too soggy because then it would be imposible to work with as it would melt.
Heat the pan and add a good amount of butter so they are able to fry. Once the butter is bubbly or even its a little brown you can add your soaked bread and fry for about 3-4 minutes on each side depends on the size of your bread and temperature. You will know its cooked when both sides are perfect golden brown color. Make sure to toast the sides a little, being careful not to burn the chocolate.
In a separate plate prepare granulated sugar and cinnamon and mix it. Then add the Nutella French toast on the plate and coat them with the cinnamon sugar. You can serve it with melted chocolate on the side to dip your toast or even with some fresh strawberries and berries to add some freshness.

Now close the bread, add another slice of bread on top. If you want you can seal the edges using a fork.

In a large plate or bowl, crack one egg, add the milk, granulated sugar and cinnamon, Mix using a whisk until you can’t see more egg lumps on the mixture. You will see how the cinnamon doesn’t melt or mix properly but that’s completely fine.

Soak the bread into the mixture for enough time both sides but making sure its not too soggy that’s why using old bread is the best option.
Heat the pan over medium heat and add the butter, wait until it starts to bubble, place the soaked bread in the pan.

Cook the Nutella French toast for about 4 minutes on each side or until it has a perfectly golden brown color. It’s gonna be crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
In a separate plate make the coating mixture, mix granulated sugar and cinnamon.
