A classic recipe on our website. Chocolate Nutella pancakes. They are delicious, fluffy cocoa pancakes filled with Nutella. The Nutella is inside because of a Nutella ring we created.
We originally published a Nutella pancake recipe, and it went mega viral. We promised we would share the recipe for the chocolate Nutella pancakes over 2 years ago, and we never did.

This recipe is a favorite for breakfast. Did you know pancakes are the reason I met my fiancé?? So if you want a ring on your finger, try this delicious recipe. I recommend it as a special breakfast for the weekend or a treat instead of a daily breakfast.
We are posting a recipe every day, and this is the second recipe I’m writing today, because I love creating content so much, and eating.

What’s so special about chocolate Nutella pancakes
Instead of spreading the Nutella on top of the pancake, with this recipe, we are adding it in the middle.
Before you prepare the Nutella pancakes, you must frozen rings to be able to put in the middle while the pancakes cook.
Add to your shopping list.
The ingredients you need to prepare chocolate Nutella pancakes are ingredients you probably already have in your home or are very easy to find at the grocery store or online.
- All-purpose flour: will give structure to the pancake. If you add too much flour, the pancakes will become too dense. We reduced the quantity from the original recipe because we are going to add cocoa powder to the batter.
- Milk: adds moisture to the batter; you should use full-fat milk
- Eggs: room temperature. Don’t overmix them or the pancakes will become too dense.
- Granulated sugar: adds sweetness, flavor, and color. We are slightly increasing the quantity of sugar for this recipe to enhance the cocoa flavor.
- Baking powder: it’s what will make sure your pancakes are super fluffy.
- Vegetable oil: I prefer using a neutral oil like sunflower or olive oil. You can use melted butter instead.
- Nutella: We will freeze it into disks and place them in the center of the pancake. Once the pancake is cooked, it will beautifully melt.
- Salt: enhances the flavor of the pancake.
How to achieve a perfect smooth pancake
A question many of you have every time we share a pancake video is to share the skincare routine of the pancake.
A perfectly smooth pancake is easier than you think. Important things to achieve a perfect pancake
- Don’t use butter to cook the pancakes if you want them to be smooth. Cooking them with butter will give them a better taste, but it also creates colored rings all over the surface of the pancakes.
- The first pancake you make will always be a mess, that’s why I recommend you do a thin layer of pancake covering the surface, this way it can get the pan started, and the rest can look nice.
- Don’t over-mix the pancakes.

Nutella disks for Nutella pancakes
Freezing the Nutella disks is pretty important. I used to think it didn’t matter as much, but it actually does. What does a frozen Nutella ring do?
- Helps with adding the Nutella to the pancake. If it’s not frozen, you will make a mess, the batter will probably mix with the Nutella, it will go on the sides, and it will burn.
- Melts the Nutella slowly. Since it’s already frozen, it takes longer to melt.
Making a Nutella disk is so easy; make sure you take that extra 5 minutes to do so.
- Melt Nutella and pour it over a prepared tray with parchment paper. flatten it so it stays a flat disk. If it’s too big and thick, you will have to add too much pancake batter, and it will take much longer to cook.
- Freeze the disks for at least 30 minutes. Every time I make them, I like to keep extra stored in the freezer for next time. Every time I use them, I refill my collection of Nutella disks, which makes the process much smoother and faster.
- You can also do it without melting the Nutella. Grab a big piece of parchment paper, grab a big spoonful of Nutella, and add it on top of the parchment paper. With another side of the parchment paper, flatten it into a thin disk.

Best tips to make chocolate Nutella pancakes
- Use two different bowls, one for the dry ingredients, another one for the wet. This helps with making sure you don’t overmix the batter.
- Make sure you don’t overmix the pancake batter.
- Cook them on very low heat and cover with a lid; this will ensure your pancakes are thoroughly cooked. If you cook them on high heat, they will burn on the outside and be completely raw inside.
- Make sure to use a frozen Nutella disk so the Nutella doesn’t escape and burn at the bottom.
- If the pancakes fall apart when you flip them, it means they’re too raw and not ready to be flipped. Make sure you see bubbles form on the surface of the pancake before you flip it.
- If the pancakes stick to the pan, you are probably using the wrong pan or temperature.
Now you can make pancakes like a professional. Most of those tips would work even for a plain pancake recipe.

Dense pancakes
You have dense pancakes when you overmix the batter or add extra flour. Make sure you don’t overmix the batter, not even to remove the lumps; it’s very normal for a pancake batter to be slightly lumpy. Don’t attempt to remove them.
Tools you need to prepare Nutella pancakes
- Large mixing bowls: You will need different bowls to combine the ingredients. Make sure you have two large bowls.
- Whisk: you will need it to whisk the ingredients together. If you have two, it will be much easier, one for the dry ingredients and another one for the wet.
- Parchment paper: to freeze the Nutella into disks. You can use a Silpat instead. Anything that will make removing the Nutella disk easy.
- Small non-stick pan: make sure it’s a pan that hasn’t been used too much and has no scratches. I like to have an assigned pan in my house only for pancakes, this way I know they will always turn out beautiful.
- Big spatula: to flip the pancakes without breaking them.
- Ladle or measuring cup: You will use it to pour the batter into the non-stick pan.
- Lid: needed to cover the pan when cooking the pancake.
Important points:
Some important points about this recipe, things to keep in mind when making it.
- Not overmixing the batter.
- Cooking the pancake thoroughly.
- Low heat and covered with a lid.
- Flipping the pancake without fear of breaking. Be fast with the movement. Being slow and unsure with it will make it break.

Serving tips for chocolate Nutella pancakes
Nutella pancakes are really amazing on their own, since they already have the Nutella inside that you would spread on top of a normal pancake.
You can make pancakes taste even better by serving them with some fresh strawberries on the side. They will add some freshness, and they pair perfectly with the Nutella.
You can also pour some chocolate syrup or maple syrup, just be careful because the pancakes are already sweet.
Drink a big glass of cold milk with your pancakes; it will make breakfast so much better. (I love drinking milk with anyyy chocolate treat or dessert!)

Ingredients
FILLING
- 1/3 cup (100g) Nutella
PANCAKE BATTER
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup (250 ml) milk
- 3 tablespoons oil
- 2/3 cup (130 g) granulated sugar
- 2 1/2 cups (300 g) all-purpose flour
- 2 tbsp cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- Start by preparing the Nutella disks. Melt 1/3 cup (100g) of Nutella and pour it into 4 different points in a large prepared tray with parchment paper. freeze for a minimum of 30 minutes. It’s much better if you can prepare it the day before and have it ready when needed.
- Prepare the pancake batter. Start by whisking 2 eggs, 1 cup (250ml) milk, and 3 tbsp vegetable oil. In a separate bowl, mix 2/3 cup (130g) granulated sugar, 2 ½ cups (300g) all-purpose flour, 2 tbsp cocoa powder, 2 tsp baking powder, and 1/4 tsp salt.
- Once mixed, add the wet ingredients to the dry.
- Put a small pan in the stove and warm it up over medium heat. Add a thin layer of pancake; this will be the test. Cook it, and now start preparing the pancakes.
- Add a ladle of pancake batter; it should cover the base. Cook over medium-low heat, covered with a lid. Once it starts to bubble, add one of the Nutella disks in the center, trying to sink it without breaking the pancake. Cover with more pancake batter and cook a little longer. Once it looks more done, it has bubbles, and at least half of the pancake looks half done, flip the pancake, and use a large spatula to do so. Repeat the process until you finish all the batter.

Chef’s kiss 😘👌
Thank you!
Nice and fluffy, also instructions are so detailed you can’t even make a single mistake while making these!
Thank you!!
I really love how the recipe is tell and the ingredients too🥰
Thank you so much!
I saw this on Instagram and told my wife she should make this for us tonight. I can’t wait to try it
I would recommend reading this before you start cause I put my Nutella on plastic wrap instead of parchment paper and I’m not really sure if this is gonna work out but yeah, I’m gonna wait for like 30 minutes to see you 💀
Low-key never mind! If you don’t have parchment paper at home, take a plate, wrap it in plastic wrap, put a little bit of oil on it, and make Nutella discs. Make sure not to put too much oil.
Literally you will get the exact same results. 😎
yayy!
